Writing
At Lindens Academy, our bespoke writing curriculum is designed to inspire confident, capable and purposeful writers. Children explore carefully selected, age-appropriate model texts, using them to identify and understand the vocabulary, structure and features that make different types of writing effective. Dedicated SPaG lessons ensure that the spelling, punctuation and grammar required for each text type are explicitly taught, revisited and embedded.
Children then apply their knowledge and skills through independent writing, developing their own ideas and writing with increasing confidence and independence. Just like real authors, children are given time to review, edit and improve their work before publishing a final piece they can be proud of. This process encourages children to see writing as a craft that can be continually refined.
Every writing lesson is carefully differentiated, ensuring that all learners access the same ambitious curriculum. Through appropriate modelling, scaffolding and challenge, every child is supported to develop their skills and produce writing that reflects their full potential.
Spelling
At Lindens Academy, curriculum spellings are carefully mapped alongside our writing topics, ensuring that children have regular opportunities to apply their spelling knowledge in meaningful contexts. Dedicated time is built into every English lesson to explicitly teach and practise the week’s spellings, helping children develop accuracy and confidence. Spelling lessons and word lists are carefully differentiated, ensuring that every child is supported to learn and apply spellings that are appropriate to their individual ability, while continuing to make progress.

Handwriting
At Lindens Academy, we place a high value on presentation and handwriting, encouraging children to take pride in the quality and appearance of their work. We use the Letter-Join scheme to develop fluent, legible cursive handwriting, with handwriting taught and practised as an integral part of every English lesson.
