Year 6

 We would like to welcome you and your child to Year 6's class page. There will be lots of exciting things being added to this page throughout the year. We hope your find the information useful. If you have any further questions or queries, please do not hesitate to find one of us as we will be more than happy to assist you with any of your concerns.

Meet the team

General Information

School Times

School starts at 8:45am and ends at 3:30pm. Staff will open the playground doors at 8:45am and will close the doors at 8:55am. If your child is late, it is extremely important that they register at the front office.

Absences

 If your child is absent please ring the school office in the morning to let us know the reason. The school telephone number is 0121 353 9273.

Play times and Dinner times

During lunch time, children can chose to have a packed lunch from home or a school dinner in the dinner hall. 

Please remember that ‘Universal Free School Meals’ stop at the end of Year 2. If you are eligible for ‘Free School Meals’ please ensure you complete a ‘Free School Meal’ application form (available from the school office). 

Children are encouraged to bring a healthy snack into school to consume during morning break.

Water bottles: Children will need to bring in their own clearly labelled water bottle from home each day. These bottles must be taken home at the end of each day for cleaning and refilling. There are facilities within school for children to refill their bottles throughout the day.

Uniform Expectations

Please write your child’s name in each item of clothing so that we can return any lost items. 

Your child needs to wear:

  • A white polo shirt
  • Dark grey trousers/ skirt/ pinafore dress
  • Purple Lindens jumper
  • Purple and white checked summer dress
  • Sensible black shoes

Birthday treat

Children can wear their own clothes to school on their birthday. Should their birthday fall on a weekend, children can come to school on the Friday before wearing their own clothes.

PE Kit

Children will need to wear black tracksuit bottoms with a white polo shirt or white t-shirt. Children will also need to wear their purple Lindens school jumper.

During the warmer weather, children will be permitted to wear black shorts. 

If PE lessons are taking place outdoors, it is encouraged that children bring a spare pair of trainers into school as the field can get very muddy at times.

How to support your child's learning at home

Year 6 Homework Expectations

Homework is given out on a Tuesday and must be completed by the following Tuesday.

English - Children will work through the CGP Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar workbook. Every Tuesday, children will be given two pages to complete. It will be marked in school with the children on the following Tuesday.

Maths - Maths homework will be set on www.mymaths.com.

Reading - Children are expected to read daily for at least 20 minutes. It is important that children access a wide variety of text types.

Spellings- Spellings will be given out every Friday on the ParentHub. Children will be tested on the spellings the following Friday.
